Balance changes for Fleet Battles
Tywom

Despite being the first ship players get access to in the Adventure Mode, it’s incredibly powerful and one of the best. The incredibly rapid fire rate of the main gun made it too good at bursting enemy ships down. In particular, the Spawn Turret mechanic could be quite exploitative and anti-fun by encouraging the player to avoid the enemy spawning turrets and never engaging directly. These changes will make the Tywom play more actively and make it feel like more of a starter ship.
*Tywom Bolt cooldown increased from 1.5 to 2.25
*Turret duration reduced from 30 to 15
*Max turrets reduced from 5 to 3
*Points reduced from 12 to 10

Greegrox Swarm

The Greegrox was far too difficult to hit with projectiles due to the tiny Collision box combined with instant direction changing. These changes will make the Greegrox easier to hit.
*Collision box increased from 0.25 to 0.30
*Acceleration reduced from 18 to 12
*Points reduced from 12 to 10

Measured Response

The Measured Response could be very frustrating to play against due to the permanent slows and difficulty to hit due to high acceleration, small hitbox and instant direction changes. It will be easier to hit and its weapons are getting toned down to justify its 7 points cost.
*Red Tape now only temporarily slows instead of permanent slows
*Acceleration reduced from 20 to 14
*Invitation damage reduced from 10 to 8

Terran Cruiser

The Earthling Cruiser was too fragile and too clunky to control. These changes will make the Terran Cruiser stronger and more fun to play
*Health increased from 19 to 24
*Turn rate increased from 75 to 85

Lexite Interceptor

The Lexite Interceptor was far too strong to justify its low 9 point cost.
*Points increased from 9 to 11

Trandals Frigate

The raw power of the Trandal Weapon was too much, especially when combined with its massive mobility allowing it to flank enemy ships or pickup all the salvage easily.
*Laser Ribbon Bola damage per second reduced from 150 to 110

Scryve Probe

Like the Tywom Bolt, the Scout Shot was able to burst targets down far too quickly despite also having the dangerous self-destruct.
*Scout Shot damage reduced from 6 to 5
*Scout shot cooldown increased from 1.5 to 2.25
*Note: This is intended to also affect other ships using Scout Shot.

Drenkend Carrier

The Drenkend Carrier was too strong to justify 12 points. The De-energizer Bolt could be quite exploitative due to it’s rapid-fire and low energy cost, which could permanent chain stun targets.
*Points increased from 12 to 16
*De-energizer Bolt energy cost increased from 5 to 10
*De-energizer bolt cooldown increased from 0.4 to 0.8

Xraki Devourer

The Xraki Devourer was too strong at 12 points. The long range and massive energy pool encouraged the ship to avoid the enemy and fly away poking long range black holes, which also were deadly at close range. Lowering the range of the Black Hole projectile will force the Xraki ship to approach the enemy more.
*Points increased from 12 to 14
*Energy cost reduced from 100 to 85
*Black hole duration reduced from 5 to 2.5

Menkmack Negotiator

The Menkmack Negotiator was too weak for 12 points.
*Points cost reduced from 12 to 10

Phamyst Consumer

Invitation was far too spammable at only 10 energy as it practically had no drain on the Phamyst, given the huge range and lack of required aiming it was too powerful.
*Invitation Energy cost increased from 10 to 20

Kzanti Intimidator

The Kzanti ship was frustrating to verse as it was overly nimble and able to knock the enemy away with Repulsor. It will now be slightly less agile and not be able to spam Repulsor on top of planting mines. Especially important as this was one of the first ships the player would encounter in the Adventure Mode.
*Points cost reduced from 13 to 11
*Repulsor energy cost increased from 5 to 10
*Max speed reduced from 6.5 to 6
*Acceleration reduced from 6.75 to 6

The Kzanti Intimidator is one of several ships players can pilot in Fleet Battles. The Kzanti are a species of aggressive bounty hunters in Star Control: Origins who go around calling people "friendos." This word, we don't think it means what they think it means...

Mechanics
Not all aliens want to make nice, and if the minefield in the battle arena is any indication, the Kzanti are not your friends!

That ship of yours would fetch a steep price on the black market, but it’ll sell even better in pieces. The Kzanti Intimidator is a fierce ship with a high speed and tight turn rate that drops proximity mines as its form of primary attack. Its Repulsor will also damage your ship and push you away from the Intimidator in order to give it enough time to get away.
Although their habit of swindling every sapient being they come across would make them natural candidates for extermination by the Scryve, when the ruling Scryve Legate who discovered them found their antics amusing, they were incorporated into the Empire as jesters, and made to perform for their survival.

In recent years the Menkmack have become nomadic, seemingly abandoning their traditional territory and moving about the stars. The reasons for this are as of yet, unknown.
When the Phamysht say that it’s “nice to meet you,” they mean M-E-A-T. The Phamyhst Consumer is a quick ship with a moderate turn rate and a decent weapons range. This ship requires some careful maneuvering, but if you can catch your enemy in its primary Immolation Ray weapon then you’re sure to deal a very devastating blow. The Battlecruiser is also covered in Flak Cannons, a weapon is that hits anything that comes within a certain radius of the ship. Holding down right click will generate a bubble around the ship, but it drains your energy. Although it recharges pretty quickly, you’ll need to be careful - no battery means no shields, and no shields means you’re basically a sitting duck.

The Interceptor’s primary weapon, Dual Shot, has a decent range and packs quite a punch if your enemy is careless enough to get hit by it. It’s not too much of an energy drain, either, unless you fire too many successive shots.

This ship’s acceleration and top speed allows it to catch up with fleeing vessels fairly easily, but its turn rate is a little on the low side, so be careful if your enemies decide to quick turn on you and mount a counter attack!

Mechanics
The Drenkend Carrier is a hardy ship with a huge crew - and they need them! They can send out boarding parties that will chase down and shoot at enemy ships. Once they’re deployed, they’re incredibly difficult to outrun, so your opponent had better watch out!

Their boarding parties are made even more dangerous thanks to their primary weapon, the De-energizer bolt. This weapon drains energy from any ship that it hits, causing them to become paralyzed temporarily, which is not a good situation to be in when you’ve got a bunch of enemy units coming for you!

The Drenkend Carrier’s weaknesses lie in its low maneuverability and lackluster top-speed. But, if you can get past that and master deploying your crew and draining energy from your enemies, you’ll become a force to be reckoned with.

Mechanics
It’s a little scary when the rest of the galaxy agrees that nuclear technology is primitive and outdated, but the Terran don’t seem to mind! The Terran Cruiser’s primary weapon is a nuclear missile that uses up a fair bit of energy, but you do NOT want to get hit with this! It hurts. The missile has a decent range and arcs when fired, so line up your shots carefully.

Point Defense, the cruiser’s secondary weapon, shoots a short-range targeting beam that automatically locks onto nearby ships or objects. This ship’s turn rate and acceleration are a little low, so you’ll need to be careful about any surprise counter attacks as you zero in on your targets, since it won’t be easy for you to get away from their range quickly.

Although it can’t take a lot of hits, this vessel can still hold its own in a battle. Its primary Infection weapon fires slow moving blobs of a green, phlegm-like substance - ew - that have a long range and damage the enemy ship if they impact.
The Greegrox Swarm are a hoard of space jellyfish that travel together in colonies and attack as a single entity. These squishy aliens may not have a lot of health to speak of, but their energy recharges quickly and their acceleration and top speed are notable. The best thing about the Greegrox, though, is their turn rate - they are able to make quick adjustments to their pathing and avoid enemy attacks better than almost any other ship in the Fleet Battles lineup.

Their primary weapon, the Micro Bolt, fires several long range bolts at once. The rate of fire depends on how many crew you have remaining - the higher your crew count, the more bolts you can shoot! Their secondary Heal ability allows you to keep up their numbers and makes the Greegrox pretty tough to kill.

The challenge with the Swarm is that they’re a little difficult to control. With some practice, however, you can terrify your enemies and become the scourge of space.

The Devourer’s primary Black Hole weapon can adjust to hit targets that are both close to you and across the map by holding down the left click button when you fire, then releasing it whenever you’re ready for that black hole to burst into existence...and for your enemies to hopefully explode out of existence.

Its secondary weapon, the Gravity Wave, will let you push ships, drones, and those peskily damaging asteroids out of your way. It’s a great way to dodge projectiles or push back enemies who try to get in too close.

It's honestly really hard to tell...

Mechanics
The Menkmack Negotiator is an easy-to-maneuver ship with an interesting plan of attack. Instead of firing a ranged weapon, the Negotiator’s primary form of offense consists of dropping canister mines all over the map. These mines free-float for a short distance in the direction they’re dropped, but don’t hone in on enemy targets like some others do. Still, if your opponent is careless enough to run into one, it definitely hurts!

They say that it’s easy to get by with a little help from your friends, right? The Negotiator’s secondary attack is to call for Reinforcements. This summons another Menkmack ship that can also drop mines all over the map - making it rather like navigating a land mine for your enemy!

They are wards of the Scryve Empire and have been the official keepers of records and layers of red tape for as long as anyone can remember.

Mechanics
The Measured Response can’t really take too many hits... but that doesn’t mean you should write it off as weak! This little ship has an awesome turn rate and decent acceleration, along with a moderate top speed and recharge rate. Its controls are different from most ships, so it does take a little getting used to at first!

Its primary weapon, Red Tape, shoots several canisters that track and hone in on enemy ships. Bolts, beams, and other weapons pass right through them, so they’re pretty much impossible to destroy - your enemy will need to rely on their flight skills to dodge them! Did we mention that if they hit your enemy, it slows them down, making them easier to hit? Yeah, that's a thing.

The Demotivator is an excellent way to prevent your opponents from getting in too close. It’s an area-of-effect blast that radiates out around the ship and damages anything within range, including enemy projectiles! If you can take the time to practice and learn the controls, The Measured Response can become a true champion for you in your battles.

The Scryve Scout is a small ship that happens to be pretty fast and relatively easy to control. With a high turn rate and an average top speed, this little ship can easily get itself in close to use its short-range Scout Shot weapon, and then out of range in order to avoid counter attacks.

The Scout’s secondary ability is, well... a little final. The scout is great for thinning out ships in an enemy’s fleet that you don’t want to deal with. As long as you can get in close enough to use its secondary ability, that is! Self-Destruct is just what it sounds like - the scout goes into Kamikaze mode and takes whatever ship is unfortunate enough to be in its range out with it.

Mechanics
The Scryve Battlecruiser is one of the most terrifying ships in the Fleet Battles lineup! It’s big, it’s powerful, it’s... it’s... really, really slow. This ship requires some careful maneuvering, but if you can catch your enemy in its primary Immolation Ray weapon then you’re sure to deal a very devastating blow. You’ll just need to line it up very carefully, because once you’ve fired it you won’t be able to turn to re-position until it’s finished.

The Battlecruiser is also covered in Flak Cannons, a weapon is that hits anything that comes within a certain radius of the ship. Utilizing this secondary weapon is a great way to deter short range enemies from coming in recklessly for an attack. This thing is just outfitted for violence...which is exactly how the Scryve like it.

Mechanics
Shield’s up! The Lexite Interceptor is a hardy ship that happens to be very short-handed on crew, but it more than makes up for it with its powerful shields, which can block even the deadliest of death rays.

The Terran Cruiser is one of several ships a player can pilot in Fleet Battles. The Terran are known as Humans and are the race that the player represents in the adventure mode of Star Control: Origins.

Just remember: you have nukes. It’ll be fine!

The Mowlings Fencer is one of several ships a player can pilot in Fleet Battles. The Mowlings are a race of small, teddy-bear like creatures with the wrath of god on their side in Star Control: Origins.

Mechanics
These little guys may look adorable and innocent, but don’t be fooled! The Mowlings Fencer is a fast moving ship with a high acceleration and decent top speed. Their primary weapon, the “Beam Carver,” shoots a devastating red laser straight out from the ship’s bow. Although it requires the enemy to be at a fairly close range, the Fencer’s high turn rate make it tough to evade the beam once you’ve run into it.

These Mowlings have one other trick up their sleeve with their secondary weapon - “Summon Jeff.” Jeff is their deity, and he protects them...in the form of an aggressive and powerful ship that will appear to shoot down anyone who dares to threaten them. It’s really in your best interest to avoid making Jeff angry. It never ends well.

The Greegrox Swarm is one of several ships players can pilot in Fleet Battles. The Greegrox are a race of space jellyfish that appear in Star Control: Origins' adventure mode.

Mechanics
The Greegrox Swarm are a hoard of space jellyfish that travel together in colonies and attack as a single entity. These squishy aliens may not have a lot of health to speak of, but their energy recharges quickly and their acceleration and top speed are notable. The best thing about the Greegrox, though, is their turn rate - they are able to make quick adjustments to their pathing and avoid enemy attacks better than almost any other ship in the Fleet Battles lineup.

Their primary weapon, the “Micro Bolt,” fires several long range bolts at once. The rate of fire depends on how many crew you have remaining - the higher your crew count, the more bolts you can shoot! Their secondary “heal” ability allows you to keep up their numbers and makes the Greegrox pretty tough to kill.

The challenge with the Swarm is that they’re a little difficult to control. With some practice, however, you can terrify your enemies and become the scourge of space.

The Pinthi Contagion is one of several ships that a player can pilot in Fleet Battles. The Pinthi are a race of intelligent sentient bioweapons in Star Control: Origins.

Mechanics
The Pinthi Contagion is a quick turning and reasonably fast vessel that looks a lot more like a pulsating organism than it does a ship. Regardless of how it looks, the Contagion is a dangerous enemy to meet on the battlefield!

Although it can’t take a lot of hits, this vessel can still hold its own in a battle. Its primary “infection” weapon fires slow moving blobs of a green, phlegm-like substance - ew - that have a long range and damage the enemy ship if they impact.

Its secondary weapon, “contagion,” releases a small free-flying drone that chases down the enemy and shoots its own blobs of green phlegm at them. Maybe these Pinthi should see a doctor about that...
