Original Star Control -- Source?

Hello, I am a software engineer and Star Control 1 aficionado.
I frequently wish for the SC source code so I could make improvements (for the AI, for the map, for the game economics, etc).  Is there any hope whatsoever that Stardock might open-source it some day to help breathe new life into the old game?
