Splib is the name of a dog that The Captain may claim to have lost, having been reminded of the dog after hearing the Utwig describe the loss of their Ultron. According to The Captain's story, Splib was killed after running in front of a "rock chipper".
There is evidence that would suggest the dog is merely made up. Descriptions of the expedition to Unzervalt do not mention dogs being brought along.
