The Faction of Eight were a minor meta-civilization that arose in our region of the galaxy over 15,000 years ago, filling the vacuum left by the departure of the Precursors. They consisted of eight individual civilizations of approximately equal power who banded together and begun eliminating other civilizations, so that only eight would ever exist.
