First contact with the Free Trandals is during one of Overmind's messaging systems, telling you to visit [[Alpha Naviculum]] III, where a tower tells you to head to Beta Llorven.  There, true first contact is made with the Free Trandals, who tell you of Overmind's true purpose in the upgrades, and ask for help in getting more Free Trandals.
